Glossybox February 2013 – Valentine’s Day.

Hello everyone.

I am rather impressed with how early I’ve received this month’s Glossybox, it’s only the 11th! I suppose, this box being the Valentine’s Day one, it’s only natural to receive it a few days before.

So the actual name of this month’s box is ‘Valentine’s Day – Will you be ours?’, very sweet. And very sweet is the box design: glossy pink box, with pale pink tissue paper and rose pink shredded paper.

Only downside is the leaflet, again, I don’t understand why more work isn’t put into this. I say it every month, the paper isn’t great, the printing could be a thousand time better. Why not have a nice magazine/leaflet, printed on some nice glossy paper, to go with the glossy box…

What came in the box this month?

Micabella Cosmetics Mineral Blush Powder in Terra Cotta – 0.8g sample (£34.95/9g). When I saw the small pot with a black lid, I was about to jump out of my skin; I thought this was another Bella Pierre eyeshadow. But phew, it wasn’t, this is a blush instead. Colour wise, I wouldn’t say this is a true terracotta, it’s paler and more orange, I’d say it’s a coral with a some shimmery flexes. Not my cup of tea but  I’ve never used a mineral powder blush before so I’ll try it and see how I get on.

ModelCo Eye Shadow Duo Palette in Bronzed Goddess – 2 x 2.35g sample (£18/3 x 2.35g). The two shades are Maldives and Jamaica (not sure which is which though) and one looks like a yellow/beige and the other a chocolate-brown, both with gold shimmers. From doing a few swatches, I can say that the lightest one (possibly Maldives) hasn’t got much of a colour payoff, it just applies as some shimmer. The darker one (possibly Jamaica) does have a much better pigmentation and translate quite well on the back of my hand. I would;t wear either of them before the warmer months.

Anatomicals You Need a Blooming Shower – 150ml (£5/300ml). In simple words, this is a rose scented shower gel. I like shower gels but but I really don’t like rose scented products. Won’t be using this but I’m sure I’ll fine someone who’d like it.

Helen E Cosmetics Moisturising Lipstick in Cafe au Lait – 3.5g (£8/3.5g). Nice, compact yet heavy packaging, perfect for the handbag, not particularly excited about the colour which is a brown nude with shimmer. I’ll see how I get on with it.

Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft Cream – 30ml (£25/50ml). This is a body moisturizer. It smells like children’s toothpaste straight out of the tube, then straight up like raspberry tart on the skin. Not too excited about it.

I’m not overwhelmed by this Valentine’s Day box but I can see many people liking the content. I’ll definitely try the eyeshadows when I feel like my inner bronzed goddess can be unleashed and will see how to use the mineral blush out of that tiny pot.

One thing worth noting is that the value of the goods included in the box is quite high this month, definitely worth over the £10 for the box.

Please let me know what you got in your Glossybox this month.

Glossybox January 2013 – Detox.

Hello everyone.

It’s that time of the month again, when beauty boxes are being dispatched and every subscriber is waiting anxiously to find out if their £10 (plus £2.95 P&P) were worth what they’re getting…

There were a few tweets about the latest Glossybox box being dispatched to subscribers yesterday. I have to say I was quite anxious about the quality of the content of this first 2013 box as I wasn’t too impressed with the two last boxes. That said, it wasn’t just Glossybox who had let me down, Joliebox hadn’t done too well in my books either…

First comment I have to make is that the box turned up within twenty-four hours of being dispatched, and that despite the heavy snowing that we are experiencing in England. I’ve never really understood why we had to pay £2.95 for P&P and wait up to five days to get the box, seems like it should be a next-day delivery at that price… So well done to Glossybox on arriving first this month!

Now to the actual box, ‘Detox‘.

It’s back to the standard pink and black design, nothing special or new for 2013 then. The box is well presented but the ‘leaflet‘ isn’t great… Call me picky, but once again I feel like the paper and the printing quality could be a lot better… Just saying.

What’s in the leaflet? Some Glossybox news, tips for a fresh start to 2013, details on the products in the box.

I’ve mentioned above how anxious I was about finding out what I’ve been sent this month. My feeling as I first saw the products : relief.

No funky colours and no tiny vial of fragrance. This month I get a lip balm, two face products, a body lotion, a hair product and a sleep mask.

As always, I’m listing the products and giving you my first impressions.

Elemis Fresh Skin Skin Glow Facial Exfoliator – 30ml sample (£12/100ml). I’ve mentioned in previous articles that I have very sensitive skin and that many exfoliating face products do irritate my skin, leaving it feeling tight and looking red. The exfoliating beads in this face wash seem to be very fine and the product smells lovely and fresh and I’ve been wanted to try something from Elemis for a while, so I will definitely try this one out.

Duck Island Limited Body Lotion Mandarin & Bergamot – 30ml sample (£24.95/2 x 250ml). At first glance, this sample looks like an enormous bottle of nail polish, it’s actually a small sample of body lotion. It’s freezing cold at the moment, great moment to test out body lotions. I wouldn’t have picked the Mandarin & Bergamot myself (not too keen on citrusy scents in general) but I will definitely try this out. Only drawback is that it is only a 30ml sample, can’t see that I’ll be able to get more than one application out of this.

Jason Lips Bee Healthier – 4.5g sample (£1.99/4.6g and yes, full size is only 0.1g heavier apparently). I’m always up for trying new lip balms.  This one is certified 70% organic, it’s made out of aloe and beeswax and claims to moisturize and protect the lips. I’ve had it on my lips since I’ve opened the Glossybox, I’m not too keen on the odd chocolate scent, but I haven’t had to reapply it and my lips feel lovely. Quite pleased with this.

Monu Aromatic Mask – 30ml sample ( £24.95/100ml). Before I talk about the product itself I need to tell you how annoying the packaging is. The product comes in a soft plastic bottle with a screw lid, I had to dip my little finger to get some product out… This means I’ll have to squeeze the bottle or dip a cotton bud in there to get the product out when I want to use it: not good. This is terrible, right? It can’t get any worse, right? Wrong! The details and instructions are written in turquoise on the bottom and because the cream is beige, the background is beige, unreadable. At least the important information can be found on the Glossybox leaflet.

Now onto the actual product. Standard cream mask, smells like a face mask, looks like one, I like face masks, I am looking forward to using it.

Paul Mitchell Super Strong Daily Shampoo – 100ml sample (£11.50/300ml). I am so glad this comes in a 100ml bottle rather than in one of these useless sachets, I will get to actually test it! It’s a shame that the Glossybox subscribers get either the shampoo or the conditioner, it would have been so much better to get both.

Glossybox Sleep Mask. I don’t think I could ever sleep wearing one of these but I give it to Glossybox, nice touch adding a sleep mask in their detox box.

All in all, I am quite pleased with this box, especially since I was so disappointed with the two previous box I received. If I’m totally honest, I have to tell you that I promised myself I’d cancel my subscription if the January 2013 didn’t live up to my expectations. I am pleased to say that I am staying with Glossybox, I was not disappointed this month.

Glossybox is a monthly subscription, £10 (plus £2.95 P&P) per month. Have a look here.

What do you think of this box?

Glossybox December 2012 – Bejewelled.

Hello everyone.

I seem to receive my subscription boxes later than anyone else, and only just got the Glossybox one (Saturday 15th), still waiting on Joliebox… Odd. Anyway, this article is about Glossybox and the December 2012 box, ‘Bejewelled’.

The box arrived in the usual cardboard box but it wasn’t the pink Glossybox we know… I like the fact that it has a festive design this month. I am very pleased with the silver and stars theme, well thought Glossybox, well thought. Not too impressed however, with the leaflet… It looks like it’s been printed at home, the ink is faint and the quality of the paper is mediocre. What happened there?

This is the last box of the year and I think it isn’t unreasonable to expect it to be the best box of the year or at least be a little special, and be relevant to the end of the year festive period especially after seeing that they thought about a festive design and called the box ‘Bejewelled‘.

So what did I get this month? A lipstick, a body moisturizer, a nail polish, a blush, a moisturizer and a fragrance.

As always, I will list the products below and give you my first impressions.

Argentum La Potion Infinie – 2x 5ml. I am still looking at different brands as I will be changing my current skincare routine when I finish the products I’m using at the moment,  The Potion Infinie is a white cream, it has a herbal scent and isn’t too strong, I can live with that. I’ve used it today under my foundation, it is very sticky as it dries on the skin, very unpleasant in fact. I did however keep it on and applied my foundation and concealer as usual and nothing move  during the twelves hours I had makeup on.

This is a high-end moisturizer for face, eyes and neck moisturizer, and I excepted it to be pretty good. I am very pleased with how the first day went and I will definitely use up the two samples but I very much doubt I’ll be purchasing the full size product, at £147/70ml it is a little excessive.

Seche Vite Nail Lacquer in Portobello – 14ml (full size). Finally a full size product! I use the Seche Vite top coat, and I’m very pleased to be able to try a nail polish from the brand. I received the colour Portobello which is a browny-taupe shade. It’s a dark nude, my kinda thing. I’ve only tried it on one nail and so far I can say that it is highly pigmented (only one coat required), not streaky and promising. I’d like to add that I am glad that I didn’t get any crazy colour for once.

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Stiletto – full size. First product I ever own from Sleek, though I’ve heard of their affordable blushes and palettes. This is a matte lipstick, the packaging is matte and compact, the colour looks atrocious on me. It’s just a very bright orangey-red I would have never bought, even at £4.99. I would have loved to receive the colour Cherry, which is a dark berry colour. Another disappointment for me I’m afraid.

Rituals Magic Touch, Cherry Blossom & Rice Milk – 70ml. Oh… Another body moisturizer, I bet it smells funny… Not! This is absolutely amazing! The fragrance and so feminine and fresh. I don’t know how to describe it but I am absolutely amazed at how gorgeous it is, I just kept reapplying it all day long, I had so much on that my bedding smelt of it this morning. Not sure about the moisturizing power as I was too busy sniffing my arm. I am considering buying the full size product if I still enjoy this product as much as I have for the past twenty four hours.

Lemon by Mary Greenwell – 1.5ml. This is not a fragrance for me., at all. But more to the point, I am really, really, really, really annoyed to once again, get a fragrance sample in a beauty box I paid for. I understand that a tiny perfume sample is added as a bonus but it seems like one of the samples I pay £10 (plus P&P) for is always a perfume, which I (or anyone) can get many of free and often of my choice any department store. This is the third time I get a sample in three boxes (and I know Joliebox will be sending me one too, because ‘why not?’) and I only find it acceptable if the product is a deluxe sample like the Burberry fragrance in the November 2012 Glossybox.

As a bonus product, a Kryolan for Glossybox Blusher was included in the box. I’m not sure if this comes in only one colour but I received the shade Glossy Rosewood, a very pale pink, my kind of colour and I love cheek colours.

So what do I think of the December 2012 Glossybox? This is not a very festive beauty box and I am very disappointed actually. Products like fragrances or just the fact that I often get unwearable colours made me cancel all my subscriptions months ago and this is the second month and I have not been dazzled. I’m glad that they included the blush colour as a bonus product but I am very unimpressed with the fragrance samples and the random colours I get. This is and has always been one of my biggest complaints, beauty boxes are really random selections of not so exclusive products…

All in all this is an average Glossybox box when it really should be a Christmas special one…

What do you think? Shall I just unsubscribe?

Glossybox November 2012 – Yay or Nay?

Hello everyone.

I’m terribly sorry I’ve not been able to keep up with my articles lately, other things on… You know how it is.

I just wanted to come back to you with a follow-up to my ‘Glossybox November 2012 – First look‘ article, some of you might want to know what I think of the products.

So, as I mentioned in the previous article, I received five samples, a perfume, a body lotion, a nail polish and two skin care product.

Burberry Body Eau de Parfum – 4.5ml. I am quite particular with fragrances and I don’t particularly like this one but I have to say, I like that the sample comes in a handbag friendly bottle, I am sure it will come handy.

Alison Claire Natural Beauty Mango Body Butter – 50ml. This is a body butter, it’s a big sample but I cannot stand the smell, and I have to say I’m not sure I know anyone who would like this. It smells like tropical fruits flavoured chewing-gum… Not for me.

– Nails Inc. Porchester Square – 4ml. I like Nails Inc., I like nude nail polishes, I like trying new polishes, I didn’t like this colour on my nails. I think it’s a ‘colder’ taupe and it just clashes too much with my yellow undertone skin. It’s a shame because the colour looks gorgeous.

– Wei Royal Ming Firming and Hydrating Cream – 4ml. Though this is aimed at mature skins, I thought I’d give it a try. It has a very thick and luxurious consistency and smells very nice. I probably would go out and buy the full size product if I had mature skin and was after a new skincare product.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – 13g. I haven’t tried this yet but I am looking forward to using it. The spa I go to uses Dermalogica products and I was always left with amazing looking skin after a facial. I might update you with a review if there is much to this product.

What do I think? I am a little disappointed if I’m honest. I don’t feel like the content of the box suited me and I don’t think I’ll purchase a full size of any of the products. I really hope the December 2012 box will be better.

What did you get in your Glossybox this month? Liked any of it?

Glossybox November 2012 – First look.

Hello everyone.

I’ve recently re-subscribed to GlossyboxI unsubscribed ages ago after receiving a couple of disappointing boxes. Glossybox is a monthly beauty box subscription. Pay £10 + £2.95 P&P per month and you’ll receive a box (generally mid-month) filled with four or five deluxe size samples. The box also comes with discount codes to allow you yo  purchase the full size products at a lower price. As I said earlier, I did get a few lame boxes in the past but they seem to have stepped their game up recently, hope they don’t disappoint me again!

I’ve received my latest Glossybox yesterday and though I’d share some pictures with you. This month’s box is called ‘Stocking Fillers“, that just reminded me that Christmas is just around the corner, very exciting!

The Glossybox always comes nicely packaged and the presentation is always very neat.

So this month I received five samples. A perfume, a body lotion, a nail polish and two skin care product.

I will write a follow up article telling you what my first impressions are but I have to say this month’s box doesn’t look like a disappointing one.

Are you subscribed to a beauty box too?
